Introduction

Hello! My name is Emily Snyder and I am a Psychology major with a minor in Art therapy. I plan on going on to possibly be a therapist although things may change in the future! As far as hobbies go, I enjoy drawing & painting. I also built myself a PC this year and have begun editing videos and playing games with friends!

Nam June Paik, Electronic Superhighway: Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, 1995, fifty-one channel video installation (including one closed-circuit television feed), custom electronics, neon lighting, steel and wood; color, sound, approx. 15 x 40 x 4′ (Smithsonian American Art Museum) (© Nam June Paik Estate)

Shown above is the piece of artwork I have chosen known as the Electronic Superhighway. What initially caught my eye was the bright neon lights outlining each state and the small TV screens. I feel as this artist really wanted to convey how much technology has advanced and how it will continue to advance as time goes on. This piece also expresses the connections that we all share throughout each state and how we might communicate to one another.

  4. I really think the art therapy is an awesome idea. As a military veteran and a law enforcement veteran with PTSD I can tell you for sure it does help. I have many friends from the service that have turned to art in some fashion to help cope with their symptoms. Thank you for sharing.
